AYSO is based on the principle of good sportsmanship, and one common aspect of that is how coaches manage blowout situations (where one team is clearly stronger than its opponent and is in danger of scoring many more goals than the other team).
Nobody likes being blown out of a game. Kids love to score goals, but it means less when the goals come too easily. Everybody has more fun when we can find a way to balance the match.
This is where the coach plays a major role. If the coach loses control of the team, things can get ugly. However, managing blowout situations can be one of the most difficult challenges if one is not prepared.
Over the years we have collected some suggestions from experienced coaches in our area.

Tim's PerspectivePlan ahead. Prepare for these situations during practices so the changes are easy to refer to during a game. During the games take action early, do not wait for the situation to become obvious before making any changes.
Respect your opponent. Respect the game.
